The OSG HP245-1406 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 9/64 inches (0.1406 inches decimal, 3.57 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 66 mm and a flute length of 28 mm. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry reduces thrust and promotes self-centering without a pilot hole. The WD1 coating improves wear resistance and heat dissipation during cutting. This bit is part of the OSG HP245 series and is suited for production drilling applications where tool life and hole quality are critical.
The HP245-1406 is engineered for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in both blind hole and through-hole configurations. It handles cross-hole and self-centering applications as well. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 6 mm diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders used on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools in industrial and maintenance settings. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes without coolant-through capability required.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces as noted in OSG HP245 series specifications. Primary workpiece material codes P and K apply. Not rated for coolant-through toolholders.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with carbide cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Power down and de-energize the spindle before changing tooling. Avoid side loads and interrupted cuts that can chip the carbide tip.
