The OSG HP245-1378 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It measures 3.50 mm in diameter with an overall length of 66.00 mm and a flute length of 28.00 mm, giving a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for moderate-depth holes. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry reduces thrust and promotes self-centering at entry. A WD1 coating provides wear resistance and thermal protection during aggressive feed rates. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm in diameter for secure chuck retention. This drill is intended for use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals working on ferrous materials.
The HP245-1378 is built for applications including blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, general drilling, and self-centering operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. Its regular spiral flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction make it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools with appropriate chuck capacity. The tapered web configuration and R-thinned point are particularly well suited for precision entry on flat or curved ferrous surfaces without a center punch. Solid carbide drill bits should be installed and removed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using a properly sized chuck or collet rated for the 6.00 mm shank diameter. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured before starting the cut. Carbide is brittle — avoid lateral loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed rate adjustments, or re-chucking with worn or damaged tool holders. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use; carbide tooling does not tolerate the same regrind cycles as high-speed steel.
