Product Description

The OSG HP245-1024 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries a 2.6 mm diameter (0.1024 inch) with a 140-degree R-thinned point that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust on entry. The WD1 coating extends tool life when cutting ferrous materials. At 56 mm overall length with a 22 mm flute length, this bit fits standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools with a 3.0 mm straight-cylindrical shank. The regular spiral, 2-flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in blind-hole and cross-hole operations. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users.

The HP245-1024 targets drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron classified under material codes P and K. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate-depth holes in these materials without excessive deflection. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole intersections, through-hole drilling, and self-centering starts where a pilot drill is not used. The R-thinned web and tapered web configuration reduce the dead zone at the tip, making it well suited for close-tolerance production work where consistent entry geometry matters.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and heat resistance in ferrous materials
  • WD1 coating reduces wear and extends service life in steel and cast iron
  • 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry and reduced thrust
  • 2-flute regular spiral geometry promotes chip evacuation in blind and cross holes
  • 3.0 mm straight-cylindrical shank compatible with standard drill chucks and collets
  • Diameter tolerance of plus 0.002 to plus 0.012 mm for consistent hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (material codes P and K). Fits standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 3.0 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG HP245 series covering the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm diameter range.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following shop safety protocols. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Verify shank seating depth and runout before beginning a cut, as carbide bits are brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Do not use this bit on materials outside its rated workpiece classification, as this can cause premature breakage.
