The OSG HP245-0780 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous workpiece materials. It carries a 140-degree R-thinned point that improves self-centering and reduces thrust on entry. The WD1 coating provides surface hardness and heat resistance suited to steel and cast iron applications. At 50 mm overall length with an 18 mm flute length, this is a compact, rigid tool built to hold tight diameter tolerances of +0.002 to +0.012 mm. It features a straight-cylindrical shank with a 3 mm shank diameter and two spiral flutes in a regular helix. Designed for use by machinists and metalworking professionals on manual machines, CNC machining centers, and drill presses.
The HP245-0780 is intended for drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its R-thinned web and tapered web configuration make it well suited to blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, and self-centering applications where a standard split-point bit would struggle. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes without coolant-through capability. Typical installations include precision component manufacturing, maintenance machining, and production drilling in short-run ferrous parts.
Designed as a high-performance replacement drill bit for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces; primary workpiece material codes P and K per ISO material classification. Compatible with standard 3 mm straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders on CNC and manual machines.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and the shank is fully seated before tightening. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive runout or lateral loading. Follow your machine manufacturer and shop safety guidelines when selecting feeds and speeds for carbide tooling in ferrous materials.
