The OSG 8720500 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. It measures 5.00 mm in diameter with an overall length of 80.00 mm and features a 140-degree R-thinned point geometry that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The three-flute, regular spiral configuration increases chip evacuation speed compared to standard two-flute designs, making it well suited for short-cycle drilling operations. OSG's proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating provides enhanced lubricity and wear resistance for extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Coolant-through capability allows internal delivery of cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, supporting higher feed rates and consistent hole quality.
This bit is intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automated production equipment where screw machine length tooling is specified for rigidity and minimal deflection. The 6.00 mm straight cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in standard tool holders, collets, and hydraulic chucks. It is applicable across industries including aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing, and general metalworking wherever tight-tolerance, high-speed drilling is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
OSG Series 6600 tooling in the 5.00 mm to 6.50 mm diameter range. The 6.00 mm straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and Weldon-style holders sized for that shank diameter. Designed for use in CNC machining centers and production drill equipment that accept screw machine length carbide drill bits.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing tooling. Verify that the tool holder bore matches the 6.00 mm shank diameter and that the bit is seated to the correct insertion depth per the holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm coolant-through passages are clear and coolant pressure is set within the machine's rated range before beginning a cut.
