The OSG 8670610 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 140-degree split point, right-hand spiral flute geometry, and a straight-cylindrical shank measuring 8.00 mm in diameter. The R-thinned web reduces thrust and improves centering without a separate spotting operation. At 0.2402 inches (6.10 mm) in diameter, this bit fits the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch size range of the OSG 6300 Series. A coated finish extends tool life in abrasive cuts. Diameter tolerance holds to +0 to -0.022 mm, making it suitable for close-tolerance hole requirements in production environments.
This drill bit is built for machining steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine and CNC lathe or mill applications. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-reach setups. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support efficient chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes. It is well suited for production drilling, component manufacturing, and toolroom use where consistent hole quality and tool life are critical. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist cooling should be applied when drilling at high speeds or feeds.
Part of the OSG 6300 Series, designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits standard straight-shank collets and drill chucks accepting an 8.00 mm shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck to the recommended engagement depth before running the spindle. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Do not run this bit in materials outside its rated workpiece range, and apply adequate external coolant when operating at elevated speeds to prevent thermal damage to the carbide substrate.
