The OSG 1410105005 is a thread forming tap designed for M10x1.50 metric coarse internal threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this tool forms threads by cold displacement, eliminating chips and producing stronger thread walls. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for improved heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to further extend tool life. It features a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, allowing threads to be formed close to the bottom of a blind hole. Class of fit is 4H with a D6 thread limit. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers of this tool in machine shop and production environments.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The HY-PRO NRT series is suited to both manual and CNC tapping operations where chip-free thread forming is preferred. Its right-hand thread direction aligns with standard machine spindle rotation for straightforward setup. The modified bottoming geometry makes it especially useful in fixtures or components where full thread depth close to the hole bottom is required.
Designed for M10x1.50 metric coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series (Series 14101).
This tap is installed and operated by machinists using compatible tap holders on manual mills, drill presses, or CNC machining centers. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely fixtured before changing tooling. Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — use the correct pre-drill diameter for M10x1.50 metric coarse forming applications as specified by the tap manufacturer. Cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate to the workpiece material should be applied to reduce tool wear and heat buildup.
