The OSG 1410100900 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger, work-hardened threads with no swarf to clear from the hole. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap handles the elevated heat and stress of forming threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 1.813 inches and a thread length of 0.512 inches, it is sized for compact, precision fastener applications in production and repair environments. Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size, which is larger than the drill size used for cutting taps of the same thread — confirm the correct forming drill diameter before starting. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage, especially critical at this small diameter. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce forming force and extend tap life. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding standards when power-tapping.
