The OSG 1400110001 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile materials without cutting. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap handles demanding threading applications where tool longevity and thread quality are critical. It covers a 6-32 UNC thread specification with a right-hand thread direction and an H3 thread limit, providing consistent 3B class-of-fit results. With a 2.0 inch overall length and a 0.37 inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders and collet chucks used in production and maintenance machining environments. It is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, engineered specifically for no-cut thread forming.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer — 1 to 1.5 thread pitch — allows threading to the bottom of blind holes where plug or taper taps cannot fully engage. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals use this tap in CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and hand tapping setups where fine thread accuracy in small-diameter holes is required.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — the recommended drill diameter differs from a standard cut-tap drill and must be verified against OSG HY-PRO NRT drill charts for 6-32 UNC before use. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material; do not run dry. Secure the workpiece fully and ensure the spindle is properly aligned to the hole axis before tapping to avoid tap deflection or breakage. This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with small-diameter tapping procedures.
