The OSG 1067802 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to a 6-32 UNC specification. Manufactured from high-speed steel, this tap delivers consistent thread quality in a wide range of metallic materials. The plug chamfer provides moderate lead-in over the first several threads, making it suitable for through-hole and sufficiently deep blind-hole applications. With an overall length of 2 inches and a thread length of 0.6875 inches, the 1067802 fits standard tap holders and extension attachments used in manual and CNC tapping operations. It carries a Class 3B fit designation and an H2 thread limit, producing threads within the tolerance range required for close-fit fastener assemblies. Machinists and maintenance technicians install this tool when consistent thread accuracy at the 6-32 size is required.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance tapping in both shop and field environments. It is used in applications involving aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. The straight flute geometry is most effective in short-chipping materials where chip evacuation through the flute is reliable. Typical applications include threading enclosure panels, brackets, machine housings, and fastener bores in light structural assemblies. It is used with standard tap wrenches, T-handles, or CNC tapping heads equipped with 6-32 compatible collets or holders.
Compatible with aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for any application requiring a 6-32 UNC, Class 3B, H2 thread limit plug tap.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the starting hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 6-32 UNC threads before beginning the tapping operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Never force a tap against resistance; back off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage.
