The OSG 10166005 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and alloy steel applications. Built from cobalt high speed steel with a coated finish, it offers improved heat and wear resistance over standard HSS tooling. The 130-degree drill point angle and R-thinned web configuration reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation at entry. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.0625-inch flute length, this stub-length geometry delivers increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for accurate hole starting in production environments. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors as well as industrial machinists rely on this geometry for repetitive close-tolerance drilling work.
This drill bit is intended for drilling steel and alloy steel workpieces in screw machine, turret lathe, CNC, and general production drilling setups. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. Its 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute design support consistent chip clearance in short-depth holes. The bit carries a wire gauge designation of number 19 and a decimal inch diameter of 0.1660 inches, equivalent to 4.22 mm, placing it within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range of the OSG Series 1000 line.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting straight-cylindrical shanks; rated for drilling steel and alloy steel as primary workpiece materials within the OSG Series 1000 screw machine length product line.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with rotary cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Do not exceed the spindle speed and feed rate recommendations for cobalt HSS tooling in the workpiece material being drilled. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
