The OSG 10154005 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and alloy steel applications. Built from cobalt high speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN), this bit delivers increased wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 130-degree point angle with X-thinned web geometry, which reduces thrust force on entry and improves hole accuracy. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1875 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 2-7/16 inches, making it compact enough for tight-clearance drilling setups. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production drilling operations are the primary users.
This drill bit is sized to wire gauge number 23, corresponding to 0.1540 inches (3.91 mm) in decimal and metric equivalents. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — reduces deflection and improves rigidity during high-cycle production drilling. With a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a 1-inch flute length, this bit is suited for shallow-to-moderate depth holes in ferrous materials. It is part of OSG Series 1000 and is classified as a high-performance grade drill. Applications include CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual turret lathes working with mild steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous stock.
Designed as a high-performance replacement or production drill for applications requiring wire size 23 (0.1540 inches) hole diameters in steel and alloy steel workpieces. Compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.1875-inch shank diameter.
This drill bit is installed by machinists and tool operators into a compatible drill chuck or collet on a CNC machining center, drill press, or lathe turret. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning production runs. Always set appropriate spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid premature wear or breakage. Coolant or cutting oil is recommended for extended-run drilling in steel, even though this bit does not feature through-coolant capability.
