The OSG 1015202 is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut internal 10-32 UNF threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It features 4 flutes ground from high-speed steel (HSS) stock and is configured with a plug chamfer, which provides a gradual thread lead-in suited to through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications. The tap conforms to a 3B class of fit, delivering the standard tolerance range required for most general-purpose UNF threaded assemblies. Overall length is 2-3/8 inches with a thread length of 7/8 inches. Thread direction is right hand with an H2 thread limit, keeping tolerance consistent across production runs.
This tap is suited to job-shop, maintenance, and production threading operations where 10-32 UNF fastener holes are required. It is appropriate for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The straight flute geometry works best in through-hole applications and short blind holes where chip evacuation is not constrained. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working on light mechanical assemblies, enclosures, panels, and fixture components will find this tap a direct fit for standard hand or machine tapping setups.
Designed for use in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Fits standard 10-32 UNF tapping applications in hand-tap, drill press, and CNC tapping cycles where a straight flute plug tap with H2 limit is specified.
Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material before beginning the tapping operation. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. When machine tapping, confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap diameter. Never force a tap that has stopped turning freely - back off to clear chips before continuing.
