The OSG 1010400 is a straight flute hand tap designed for cutting 1-64 UNC internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It features a plug chamfer, 2 flutes, and a 2B class of fit with an H2 thread limit, making it well suited for through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole tapping applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable cutting performance in low-to-medium production environments. Thread length is 3/8 inches and overall length is 1-11/16 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for hand tapping or machine tapping operations where a standard tolerance fit is required.
The OSG 1010400 is intended for tapping threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Its plug chamfer provides a balance between easy thread starting and the ability to tap close to the bottom of a hole, making it a practical general-purpose choice in job shop, production, and field maintenance settings. The right-hand thread direction and standard UNC profile make this tap compatible with the most common fastener specifications encountered in industrial and mechanical applications.
Designed for tapping 1-64 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 102.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using an appropriate tap wrench or tapping head. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is started square to the hole to prevent tap breakage in this small diameter. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before and during tapping. Relieve chips periodically by reversing the tap one-half turn for every full turn of advance when hand tapping.
