The OSG 1006100800 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from solid carbide, it delivers significantly greater rigidity and wear resistance than high-speed steel alternatives, making it well suited to production environments where tool life and hole-to-hole consistency matter. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — allows controlled thread engagement from the entry end, balancing cutting force distribution across the flute length. With 4 flutes and a D5 thread limit, this tap holds a 6H class of fit, the standard tolerance for general-purpose metric fastener applications. Overall length is 2-23/32 inches with a 1-1/8 inch thread length.
This tap is intended for use in CNC machining centers, rigid tapping setups, and production drilling lines where straight-flute geometry performs best in short-chipping materials. Rated material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, cobalt chrome, and copper alloy. The bright/uncoated finish keeps the tool at its ground carbide geometry without added coating thickness, which can be advantageous in close-tolerance threading. Coolant-through is not supported on this model; flood coolant or mist directed at the entry point is the typical approach for chip evacuation and heat management in these materials.
Designed for rigid tapping in CNC machining centers and production setups working with aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, cobalt chrome, and copper alloy workpieces requiring M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads to a 6H tolerance class.
This tap is intended for installation by machinists and CNC setup technicians using rigid tapping cycles or a synchronized tapping head — floating holders are not recommended with solid carbide taps due to brittleness under axial float. Ensure the spindle speed and feed rate are synchronized to the 1.25 mm pitch before engaging the tap. Secure the tap in a properly sized collet or tap holder matched to the 0.3180-inch shank diameter, and verify runout before production use. Flood coolant or mist directed at the entry point is recommended; do not use coolant-through fixtures as this model does not support internal coolant delivery.
