The NU-CALGON NUCAL-4207-47 is a concentrated phosphoric acid-based ice machine cleaner formulated to dissolve lime scale and mineral deposits inside commercial and residential ice makers. The active composition is 75% food-grade phosphoric acid, giving it a specific gravity of 1.584 and a pH below 1 for aggressive scale removal. The liquid formula produces no harsh fumes during use, making it suitable for service work in occupied food-service environments. HVAC-R technicians and refrigeration service pros use this cleaner as part of routine ice machine maintenance to restore water flow, clear plugged distribution holes, and prevent equipment shutdowns caused by scale buildup.
This cleaner is applied to both cuber and flaker-style ice machines. As ice forms, dissolved minerals concentrate in the recirculating water and precipitate as lime scale on internal components. Left untreated, scale obstructs distribution holes, restricts water flow, jams augers on flaker units, and can cause belt or drive mechanism failure. The NUCAL-4207-47 is diluted at 8 fluid ounces per 3 gallons of water and run through the machine's cleaning cycle to dissolve accumulated scale. It is suited for food-service establishments, convenience stores, hotels, and any facility operating automatic ice-making equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style cleaning solution for use in automatic ice-making equipment including cuber and flaker machines where lime scale and mineral deposit removal is required.
Cleaning should be performed by a qualified refrigeration or food-equipment service technician following the ice machine manufacturer's prescribed cleaning cycle procedure. Power down the unit and allow the ice bin to empty before introducing the cleaning solution. Wear appropriate chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection when handling concentrated phosphoric acid. Follow all local health department and food safety guidelines regarding cleaning agent use in food-service equipment.
