The NICHOLSON 37793 is a Swiss-pattern round needle file designed for precision material removal in tight spaces and fine detail work. It features a Cut 4 finish, which delivers a very fine cutting action suited for deburring, smoothing, and shaping metal, plastic, or similar materials. The file has an overall length of 6.25 inches with a 3-inch length of cut and a 0.11-inch diameter, making it a compact, purpose-built tool for intricate work. A tang end allows the user to fit a separate file handle if needed. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, pipefitters, and maintenance trades commonly use needle files of this type for finishing work that coarser files cannot achieve.
This file is appropriate for detailed precision filing tasks on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as plastics and composites. Its round cross-section allows it to enlarge or refine circular openings, slots, and curved profiles. The needle-file scale and fine cut make it a standard choice for instrument-level work, mold finishing, and keyway or orifice cleanup in mechanical and HVAC components. It is sold as a single file with no handle included.
Designed as a general-purpose Swiss-pattern needle file suitable for precision filing applications across metalworking, mechanical maintenance, and related trades.
Needle files are hand tools used without power. Secure the workpiece firmly before filing to maintain control and prevent injury. If a handle is used, ensure it is properly seated on the tang before applying pressure. Inspect the file for cracks or missing teeth before use, and store separately from other tools to protect the cutting surfaces.
