The NICHOLSON 11904 is an 8-inch round American-pattern file with a bastard cut and single-cut tooth configuration. It is designed for shaping, smoothing, and deburring metal, wood, and plastic surfaces where controlled material removal and a moderately smooth finish are required. The file measures 5/16 inch in diameter and features a tang for use with a standard file handle. At 0.14 pounds, it is lightweight and easy to control through a full stroke. Machinists, pipefitters, and general tradespeople keep this style of file on hand for routine shaping and edge cleanup tasks.
This round file is suited to both shop and field use. Its cylindrical profile makes it well-matched for enlarging round holes, cleaning up pipe ends, refining keyways, and smoothing curved interior surfaces. The bastard cut falls between a coarse and second-cut file, removing material efficiently while leaving a surface ready for finishing passes. Single-cut teeth run in one diagonal direction across the face, producing a smoother cut with more consistent chip control compared to a double-cut pattern.
Designed as a standard American-pattern round file compatible with any commercially available file handle sized for a tang-style file.
File handles are sold separately and should be seated firmly on the tang before use to prevent hand injury. Always stroke the file away from the body and secure the workpiece in a vise or clamp before filing. Wear safety glasses during all filing operations. Files are hardened and should not be hammered or pried, as they are brittle and can fracture under lateral loads.
