The NICHOLSON 08243NN is a 6-inch mill file designed for deburring, draw filing, and finishing flat metal surfaces. It features a single-cut pattern on both sides and edges, making it well suited for controlled stock removal and producing smooth finishes on steel and similar materials. Two square edges allow edge filing without rounding adjacent surfaces. The file tapers slightly in width along its length, a standard mill file geometry that aids access in stepped or shouldered work. Sold individually without a handle. This tool is used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general trade professionals who need precise manual filing in the shop or field.
The 08243NN is appropriate for bench work and field maintenance tasks involving mild steel, cast iron, and similar metals. Its bastard cut provides a mid-range tooth pitch, offering faster cutting than a second-cut or smooth file while still leaving a workable surface. At 6 inches in length, it fits standard file handles and works well for smaller workpieces, edge cleanup on pipe, deburring conduit ends, and general metalwork encountered across the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical trades.
Designed as a standard 6-inch mill file compatible with any file handle sized for a 6-inch file tang.
File handles are sold separately and should be properly seated on the tang before use to prevent injury. Always file with controlled strokes and secure the workpiece in a vise to maintain accuracy. Inspect the file for cracks or missing teeth before each use. Files should not be used on hardened steel, as contact with hardened surfaces can cause tooth fracture.
