The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28181 is a brass reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPTF ports of different sizes within a piping system. It steps down from a 1/4-inch female NPTF connection to a 1/8-inch female NPTF connection, making it a practical solution wherever a size transition is needed in a pressurized fluid or gas line. The fitting is rated to 1200 psi and handles temperatures from -65 degrees F to 250 degrees F. At 0.97 inches in length with a 3/4-inch hex for wrench engagement, it installs quickly and fits into tight spaces. Plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC techs, and industrial maintenance professionals commonly use this type of fitting when adapting instrument ports, gauges, or branch lines.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC refrigerant and oil line applications, compressed air systems, and hydraulic or pneumatic instrumentation work. The NPTF thread form creates a dry-seal mechanical connection, reducing reliance on thread sealant alone. Compatible pipe materials include brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe, giving this fitting broad utility across mixed-material systems.
Designed for use with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe. Accepts 1/4-18 NPTF thread on the larger end and 1/8-27 NPTF thread on the smaller end.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing or mechanical codes. Depressurize and isolate the system before removing or installing any fitting. NPTF threads are designed for dry-seal assembly, but a compatible thread sealant may be applied per the system requirements and local code. Do not overtighten brass fittings, as the material can crack; use a calibrated torque wrench where specifications are available from the system designer.
