The KENNAMETAL 7096847 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Offered in the Beyond Evolution series, this insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width (0.1181 inches), a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces and promotes chip flow. The GUP chip breaker geometry controls chip evacuation during grooving cycles. Coated with AlTiN for heat resistance and wear life, and manufactured in grade KCU10B, this insert suits demanding turning applications across a range of workpiece materials. It is installed and managed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for external grooving applications on production turning equipment in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The EG-P-GUP-Metric style and Insert Size Code 3 classification place it in standard toolholders designed for metric grooving insert systems. The positive rake and GUP chip breaker make it particularly effective when grooving ductile materials where chip control is critical. The multi-use designation means it can also be applied to light turning and profiling passes within its cutting width envelope.
Designed for use in toolholders compatible with the EG-P-GUP-Metric insert style, Insert Size Code 3. Consult KENNAMETAL Beyond Evolution series toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque tool as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
