The KENNAMETAL 7096840 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the A4G style with a size code of 2, this insert features a 0.0790-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0790 inches. The insert is coated with aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) via a PVD coating process, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding cutting conditions. It carries a neutral hand designation, making it suitable for both left- and right-hand tooling setups. The KCU10B manufacturer grade and GMP chip breaker geometry are engineered for controlled chip evacuation and consistent surface finish in grooving applications.
This insert is intended for use in production and job-shop turning environments where tight groove tolerances and repeatable cutting performance are required. The A4G style fits KENNAMETAL Series A4 grooving toolholders. It is a double-end insert with two cutting edges, extending tool life per insert. Typical applications include external and internal grooving, undercuts, and face grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking, aerospace, and general manufacturing commonly specify this insert for high-volume turning operations.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Series A4 grooving toolholders that accept size 2 inserts with a clamp-style insert holding method.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the correct clamp torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without damaging the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to maintain accurate cutting geometry.
