The KENNAMETAL 7096732 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precise external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the A4G-P-GUP style specification with an insert size code of 2, this insert features a 0.079 inch (1.00 mm) cutting width and a neutral hand orientation. The KCU10B grade substrate is finished with an AlTiN coating that provides thermal resistance and wear life in interrupted cuts and abrasive materials. A positive rake geometry and GUP chip breaker promote clean chip evacuation in medium to finish grooving passes. Installation is by clamp-style insert holding, consistent with the A4 series tooling platform.
This insert is suited for production turning environments where tight groove width tolerances and consistent chip control are required. The GUP chip breaker geometry is optimized for general-purpose grooving in steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The neutral hand designation makes it compatible with straight grooving operations without lateral cutting bias. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and high-volume production facilities will find this insert appropriate for finish and semi-finish grooving at moderate feed rates and surface speeds.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement grooving insert for use with A4 series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting A4G-P-GUP style inserts with size code 2.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified for the A4 series clamping mechanism and seat the insert fully before tightening. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect seating accuracy and tool life. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and depth-of-cut limits for the 0.079 inch cutting width.
