The KENNAMETAL 7096412 is a triangular carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features an AlTiN coating over a KCU10B carbide grade substrate, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous turning. The insert follows the TDHH style designation, indicating its tolerance, geometry, and chip-breaker configuration. With a 15-degree relief angle and a 0.18 mm (0.007 inch) corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight dimensional control is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this class of insert in production turning environments.
This insert is applied in turning operations on lathes where a triangular insert with a 60-degree included angle is specified. The right-hand cutting orientation means it is designed for conventional feed direction applications. The AlTiN coating makes it well-suited for dry or minimal-lubrication cutting on ferrous and hardened materials. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it appropriate for shop restocking or toolroom use on production turning cells.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders and boring bars that accept TDHH-style triangular inserts with a T insert shape code and D clearance designation. Verify seat geometry and clamping style against the specific toolholder before installation.
Turning inserts of this class are installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use appropriate insert seating tools and torque wrenches calibrated for the specific toolholder clamp screw to avoid cracking the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
