The KENNAMETAL 7096390 is a trigon 80-degree carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. Coated with AlTiN for high wear resistance, this insert carries grade KCU10B and is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The WPHT insert style features a positive side clearance and a neutral hand orientation. With a corner radius of 0.0080 inches (0.20 mm) and an inscribed circle diameter of 0.2500 inches, this insert is suited for fine surface finishes and close-tolerance turning work performed by machinists and CNC operators in production environments.
This insert is intended for finishing-grade external turning applications. The UF chip breaker geometry promotes tight chip control at light depths of cut and higher surface speeds, making it well suited for finishing passes on steel and stainless steel components. It also performs across cast iron and non-ferrous materials including aluminum. The insert fits standard WPHT-style toolholders used in production machining, job shops, and aerospace or general manufacturing environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard WPHT-style turning toolholders accepting a W-shape trigon insert with ANSI code WPHT15105 and ISO code WPHTS30102.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation and chip breaker position before resuming cutting operations.
