The KENNAMETAL 7096331 is a VPGR-style carbide profiling insert designed for precision turning and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a KCU10B manufacturer grade carbide substrate with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, making it well suited for high-speed cutting of ferrous and hardened materials. The insert measures 3/16 inches in both width and thickness (0.1875 inches) with a corner radius of 0.0157 inches (0.40 mm). Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the clamp-style holding method provides secure seating in compatible toolholders. The included angle is 35 degrees with a relief angle and rake angle each of 8 degrees.
This insert is intended for profiling, contouring, and finishing operations in metalworking environments. It is appropriate for use in production machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom applications where tight profile tolerances are required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand cutting configurations depending on the toolholder setup. Maximum depth of cut is 0.2179 inches (5.53 mm), making it suitable for moderate stock removal in finish and semi-finish passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement carbide profiling insert compatible with VPGR-style clamp toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch insert size. ISO code VCGR160404 may be referenced when cross-referencing equivalent insert holders.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stopped and locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque recommended by the toolholder manufacturer to ensure proper seating without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or contamination before seating a new insert. Never run an insert that is visibly chipped, cracked, or improperly seated.
