The KENNAMETAL 7093778 is a CCGT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured from carbide with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating under the KCU10B grade designation, this insert delivers thermal resistance and hardness suited to finishing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The diamond-shaped insert body features an 80-degree included angle and a 7-degree relief angle, providing good edge strength with moderate clearance. The corner radius measures 0.40 mm (1/64 inch), making it appropriate for fine-finish applications where tight tolerances are required. It carries a neutral hand orientation and an LF chip breaker geometry.
This insert is suited for finishing and light roughing operations on lathes in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The CCGT style with LF chip breaker is commonly applied to free-cutting steels, aluminum alloys, and similar materials where chip control and surface finish quality are priorities. The 2-cutting-edge configuration allows the insert to be indexed once before replacement, keeping tooling cost per edge competitive in high-volume turning applications. Machinists and CNC operators in precision shops will find this insert appropriate for close-tolerance turning where a small nose radius and AlTiN coating are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable insert for CCGT-compatible turning toolholders with a C-shape (80-degree diamond) insert pocket, clearance code C, and tolerance code G. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and in an e-stop or lockout-tagout condition before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under clamp stress. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, debris, or damage before seating a new insert. Always verify runout and take a test cut before returning the toolholder to production.
