The KENNAMETAL 7093182 is a VBGT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning and finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V code) with a 5-degree relief angle and a 0.0040-inch (0.10 mm) corner radius, making it well-suited for fine finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are critical. Coated with AlTiN for heat resistance and extended tool life, it carries the KCU10B manufacturer grade. The LF chip breaker geometry supports light finishing cuts. This insert is a neutral-hand design with 2 cutting edges and is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This insert is used in external turning applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where a sharp, precise cutting edge and minimal nose radius are required. The VBGT style with the G tolerance and B clearance code suits applications demanding close dimensional repeatability. Typical use cases include finish turning of shafts, bores, and contoured profiles on lathes equipped with compatible VBGT toolholders. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness fit standard VBGT seat toolholders in that size class.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VBGT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with B clearance and G tolerance codes. Verify toolholder seat specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and all axes locked or in a safe state. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the correct clamp screw driver to seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating to prevent insert rocking. Never overtighten the clamp screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping load.
