The KENNAMETAL 7036166 is a SNMG431MV carbide turning insert in the KCP25C grade, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It features a CVD multilayer coating of TiN, Al2O3, and TiCN that provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert carries a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake angle of 20 degrees, and chamfered plus honed cutting edges. With 8 usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers strong value per unit in production environments. This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining passes and is held in place by a clamp or pin style toolholder.
This insert is primarily applied to steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and N. The MV chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining, making it a dependable choice in job shops and production facilities running moderate to heavy material removal rates. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling ferrous and cast iron components will find this insert fits standard SNMG-style toolholders from the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series.
Designed as an OEM-specification insert for KENNAMETAL KENLOC series toolholders accepting SNMG-style inserts with a negative side clearance and clamp or pin retention. ANSI insert code SNMG431, ISO insert code SNMG120404.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket and torque the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new edge to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
