The KENNAMETAL 7004224 is a replaceable drill tip engineered for use with KTFST-series modular drilling systems. Manufactured from solid carbide with a fine grain substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, this insert delivers the edge retention and heat resistance required for productive drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The tip measures 0.6874 inches (17.46 mm) in cutting diameter, carries a 140-degree drill point angle, and features through-coolant capability for effective chip evacuation and thermal control at the cutting zone. Installation and tooling changes are handled by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This drill tip fits insert seat size V within the KTFST modular drill body platform, grade KC7325. It is suited for high-productivity drilling operations including standard drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The helical, regular-spiral flute geometry with two flutes and two margins supports stable cutting action across the listed workpiece material groups. Applications span general machining, aerospace, and heavy manufacturing where short-run tip replacement is preferred over full-drill replacement.
Designed for use with KTFST-series modular drill bodies requiring insert seat size V. Compatible with workpiece material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (superalloys and titanium) as designated in the supplier specification. ISO reference number KTFST06875GTP applies for catalog cross-reference.
Installation of replaceable drill tips should be performed by qualified machinists following the drill body manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines for the specific KTFST body. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping seat for chips or debris before installation, as contamination will affect runout and tool life. Through-coolant connections should be verified clear before returning the tool to service.
