The KENNAMETAL 6770886 is a ceramic, AlTiN-coated turning insert carrying the industry standard designation TPG222T0420 and manufacturer grade KYHK15B. It features a triangular (T) insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle (0.2500 inches), and a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0313 inches). The PVD-applied AlTiN coating over an Alumina TiCN ceramic substrate delivers the heat resistance and edge retention required for aggressive metal removal. With three cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker, this insert is suited for high-temperature applications where carbide grades fall short. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on difficult workpiece materials including cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material groups K, S, and H). The positive rake geometry and T-land cutting edge style reduce cutting forces while protecting the ceramic edge. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a wide range of toolholder setups. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1442 inches. It conforms to ANSI insert code TPG222 and ISO insert code TPG110308, and is part of the KENDEX series. The ISO designation is TPGN110308T01020.
Designed as a replacement-style insert for ANSI TPG222 and ISO TPG110308 toolholder seats. Compatible with clamp-style holders accepting a triangular insert with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/8-inch thickness, and positive clearance (P clearance code, G tolerance code). Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp; uneven seating can cause edge chipping on ceramic grades. Ceramic inserts are brittle compared to carbide — avoid interrupted cuts beyond the grade's rated capability and do not use coolant intermittently, as thermal shock can fracture the insert.
