The KENNAMETAL 6770553 is a ceramic turning insert carrying industry standard designation CNGA431T0420 and manufacturer grade KYHK15B. It features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process over an alumina TiCN ceramic substrate, delivering hardness and thermal resistance suited for interrupted and continuous cuts in difficult materials. The insert has a diamond shape with an 80-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a T-Land cutting edge style with a 0-degree rake angle. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.5077 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). Four cutting edges are available per insert. It is held in place by a clamp and pin method in KENLOC-style toolholders.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring operations on cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The flat-top chip breaker geometry with T-Land edge prep is suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip formation and edge stability are priorities. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.1691 inches. The PVD AlTiN coating provides oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures, making it applicable on high-hardness workpieces where carbide grades may wear prematurely. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO code CNGA120404T01020.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style clamp and pin toolholders accepting CNGA-style inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications across compatible CNC and manual lathe setups.
Installation is performed by machining professionals following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or burrs before clamping to maintain proper seating and tool geometry. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1691 inches to avoid insert fracture, particularly on interrupted cuts in hard or high-hardness materials.
