The KENNAMETAL 1849251 is a carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NPR132F insert style designation and is manufactured to the KNGX150408R20 ISO code. The grade KC5010 substrate features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed cutting operations. The insert has a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, a 55-degree included angle, and a 0.80 mm corner radius, making it well suited to profiling contours and general turning passes where edge sharpness and finish quality matter. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for profiling and turning applications across a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It covers ISO material grades P10, P20, M10, M20, K05, K10, K15, K20, N10, N20, S10, S20, and H10. Typical install scenarios include finish and semi-finish turning on Swiss-style lathes, gang tooling setups, and standard CNC turning centers where the Top Notch screw-clamping system is in use. The right-hand cutting orientation suits conventional tool post and turret configurations.
Designed for use with Top Notch series screw-clamp toolholders accepting NPR132F style inserts. Also cross-referenced to the KNGX150408R20 ISO standard insert designation. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and screw torque specification with the toolholder documentation before use.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the torque value specified in the Top Notch toolholder documentation — do not estimate or substitute torque values. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a fresh edge, as contamination under the insert face will alter depth-of-cut accuracy and can fracture the carbide.
