The KENNAMETAL 1161897 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation CCMT32505 and ISO designation CCMT09T302. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The KC730 grade is PVD-coated with TiN for high wear resistance and moderate toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. Insert holding is by screw-on method. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians on turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining passes on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Its positive side clearance and honed cutting edge style make it well matched to light-feed, tight-tolerance turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders configured for CCMT-style inserts. Two cutting edges are available per insert, supporting cost-effective tooling management on multi-operation turning centers and engine lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CCMT32505 screw-on style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle CCMT insert with screw-on holding method.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the insert screw to manufacturer-recommended practice; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating in the pocket before resuming cuts, and confirm that the toolholder pocket is free of chips or debris that could cause insert rocking. Always follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when indexing or replacing cutting inserts.
