The ISCAR 6492030 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIPY300150Y geometry with an IC907 grade designation, featuring a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating over a submicron carbide substrate. The cutting width is 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm) with a full-radius corner profile measuring 0.0591 inches (1.50 mm). A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and integrated chip breaker geometry support controlled chip evacuation across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece material applications, covering material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. That range includes steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. Typical applications include external grooving, face grooving, and cutoff operations in production turning environments, both in job shops and high-volume manufacturing cells. The single-end configuration and clamp-style holding method are standard for this insert family.
Designed as a replacement grooving insert for Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders accepting the GIPY 300150 insert size. Consult ISCAR toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
CNC machinists and toolroom technicians install grooving inserts of this type. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket can cause premature edge failure or insert breakage.
