The ISCAR 6490900 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Cataloged under the Cut-Grip series, the insert carries the GIPY600300Y geometry with an IC907 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating. The neutral hand orientation suits both left- and right-hand toolholders in the Cut-Grip system. With a cutting width of 0.2362 inches (6.00 mm) and a full corner radius of 0.1181 inches, this insert delivers consistent groove width and chip control on a broad range of workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The GIPY600300Y IC907 insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO 13399 classification. This makes it suitable for grooving and parting operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. The positive 7-degree rake angle and Y chip breaker geometry support controlled chip formation across these material groups. It is a standard single-use insert intended for high-volume turning applications where repeatable groove geometry is required.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series grooving and parting toolholders that accept the GIPY insert style in the 600300 size code. Compatible insert geometry is referenced under MSC/Manufacturer Number GIPY 6.00-3.00.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct clamping key or torx wrench specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping mechanism. Verify insert seating and tool overhang before resuming cutting operations.
