The ISCAR 6450133 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Grip series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated style TGMF420 with manufacturer grade IC830, this insert features a 4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm. The AlTiN and TiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making it well suited for demanding cutting conditions. The full corner radius of 2 mm produces a consistent, radiused groove profile. With a double-end configuration, the insert offers two usable cutting edges per unit, extending tool life between changeovers. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician is the typical installer.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting applications on superalloys and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M, P, and S. The Top Grip clamping system secures the insert via a dedicated clamp-style holder. At 17.80 mm overall length, it fits standard Top Grip toolholders designed for the 420 insert size. The double-end design makes it practical for high-volume production environments where minimizing downtime during insert indexing matters. Applications include external grooving on aerospace and industrial components where tight groove width tolerances and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with Top Grip series clamp-style toolholders accepting the 420 insert size. Verify holder compatibility with the TGMF insert style before installation. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Top Grip holder to secure the insert — do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamping components. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation for the neutral hand configuration before resuming cuts.
