The ISCAR 6450131 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying grade designation IC830 and insert style TGMF402F, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 4.00 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm and a 0.20 mm corner radius. The PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating delivers thermal resistance and edge hardness suited to demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. Clamp-style insert holding and a double-ended design maximize usable tool life per insert. Licensed ISCAR machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is intended for grooving and light parting on superalloys and titanium alloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes M, P, and S. It is well suited for aerospace, medical, and high-performance industrial turning applications where tight groove tolerances and surface finish consistency are required. The F chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at the cutting depths this insert is rated for, reducing the risk of chip packing in narrow groove profiles. The insert belongs to the ISCAR Top Grip series, which uses a clamping method compatible with Top Grip toolholders.
Designed for use with ISCAR Top Grip series toolholders that accept TGMF-style grooving inserts. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes superalloys and titanium as indicated by ISO workpiece material codes M, P, and S.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per shop safety procedures. Verify the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and prevent insert rocking. Use the torque specification provided by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the cutting edge condition and insert seating after the first test pass before running full production cuts.
