The ISCAR 6450088 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Grip series, designed for external grooving, parting, and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the TGMF635080F designation, this insert features a 6.35 mm (0.250 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 18.59 mm (0.732 inch). The IC908 grade is a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering strong wear and heat resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The double-end design extends tool life by providing two usable cutting edges per insert. Setup is toolholder-driven via a self-grip holding method, eliminating the need for a top clamp.
This insert is suited for both light-duty and moderate-depth grooving applications across universal workpiece material groups, including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The F chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in finishing and semi-finishing cuts. Typical installation settings include precision component machining, hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, and shaft grooving work on manual or CNC turning equipment. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machine shops will find this insert suitable for day-to-day grooving work.
Designed for use in ISCAR Top Grip series toolholders that accept the TGMF insert style. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S as defined by ISO material classification. Consult the ISCAR Top Grip toolholder selection guide to confirm holder compatibility with the 635080 insert size code.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. The self-grip holding method requires a compatible Top Grip toolholder pocket; do not force the insert into a non-matching holder. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating, and verify secure engagement before resuming cutting operations.
