The ISCAR 6450027 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying grade IC20 in an uncoated finish, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 4 mm (0.1575 inches) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm (0.0787 inches), with a full corner radius for clean groove geometry. The double-end design extends usable tool life, making it a practical choice for production turning environments managed by machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is suited for both roughing and finishing grooving passes in universal machining applications. The TGMF style and F chip breaker geometry support chip control across multiple material types, including ferrous, non-ferrous, and high-temp alloys as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, and S. It seats into Top-Grip series toolholders designed for the TGMF 420 insert style. Typical applications include groove turning on shafts, shoulders, and similar cylindrical workpiece features in job shop and production settings.
Designed for use with Top-Grip series toolholders accepting TGMF 420 style inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, and S, covering a universal range of materials per ISO classification. Material grades C2 and C3 apply.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians following standard lathe tooling change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating to maintain proper insert position and avoid premature edge failure. Torque clamping screws to the toolholder manufacturer's specification and verify insert seating before resuming cuts.
