The ISCAR 6405492 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Notch-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC808 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating of AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN for extended tool life and heat resistance at the cutting edge. The insert has a left-hand orientation, a cutting width of 4.70 mm (0.185 inches), and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.15 inches). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a 0.56 mm corner radius reduce cutting forces and improve chip flow. Solid carbide construction with a fine-grained substrate provides rigidity and wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for grooving and cut-off applications in both light and moderate-duty turning operations. It is rated for use on universal workpiece materials, with ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, heat-resistant alloys, and non-ferrous materials. The double-end configuration extends usable insert life. The Notch-Grip series is designed for secure clamping in compatible ISCAR toolholders, making it appropriate for high-volume production environments where repeatability and edge security are critical.
Designed for use in ISCAR Notch-Grip series toolholders that accept ING-style inserts with insert size code 3185. Rated for universal workpiece material compatibility per ISO 13399 material codes H, K, M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and ISCAR toolholder specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping. Follow the torque specifications provided in the ISCAR Notch-Grip toolholder documentation when securing the clamping screw.
