The ISCAR 6405483 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC808 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert delivers hardness and thermal resistance suited for demanding cutting applications. It features a 2.39 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm, and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees for reduced cutting forces. The left-hand orientation and ING insert style place it in the Notch-Grip series. Machinists and CNC operators working across a range of workpiece materials will find this insert a fit for high-productivity turning operations.
This insert is applicable across universal workpiece material categories, including ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys. It is suited for use in both production and job-shop turning environments where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required. The double-end configuration allows for two usable cutting edges per insert, extending service life between changeovers. Typical installations involve grooving, undercut, and parting operations on horizontal or vertical CNC turning centers.
Designed for use with ISCAR Notch-Grip series toolholders accepting ING-style inserts with the 3094 insert size code. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, de-energized state before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert firmly into the Notch-Grip toolholder pocket and verify clamping integrity before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping torque and insert seating confirmation.
