The ISCAR 6405482 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ING3088 insert style and IC808 grade, this insert features a triple-layer PVD coating of AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It delivers a cutting width of 2.24 mm (0.0880 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0940 inches). The left-hand orientation and positive rake angle of 10 degrees support controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert belongs to the ISCAR Notch-Grip series and is engineered for universal application across material groups including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and superalloys — corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, H, and S. It suits residential-scale shops and high-volume production environments alike, particularly where consistent groove geometry and reliable insert indexing are required. The double-end design allows two usable cutting edges per insert, improving cost efficiency in high-run grooving operations.
Designed for use with ISCAR Notch-Grip series toolholders that accept the ING3088 insert size. Compatible with workpiece materials across ISO groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (superalloys and titanium) as indicated by the IC808 universal-grade designation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked before seating or indexing the insert. Use the toolholder manufacturer's recommended torque driver to secure the clamping screw — do not use impact tools on insert screws. Verify insert orientation (left-hand) matches the toolholder designation before initiating a cut.
