The ISCAR 6405475 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Notch-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC808 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 0.125-inch (3.18 mm) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inch (3.81 mm). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a 3-degree lead angle support clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible Notch-Grip toolholders.
This insert is suited for both internal and external grooving applications in production and job-shop turning environments. It is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, which span hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost in high-volume turning operations. Typical applications include groove profiling, undercut machining, and snap-ring groove cutting on shafts and bores.
Designed for use in Notch-Grip series toolholders and grooving systems that accept the INR insert style with size code 3062. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Confirm toolholder designation and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque key or clamping tool for the Notch-Grip pocket to ensure secure insert retention. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before installation, and never force an insert into a damaged or worn pocket.
