The ISCAR 6405474 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and notching operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Notch-Grip series standard, this insert carries ISCAR grade IC808, a fine-grained carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating. It delivers a cutting width of 2.39 mm (0.094 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.15 inches), making it well suited for moderate-depth grooving passes with tight dimensional tolerances. The left-hand orientation, positive rake angle of 10 degrees, and 1.19 mm corner radius support controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces across a broad range of workpiece materials. Installation and replacement are handled by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning applications involving universal workpiece materials spanning ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, which correspond to hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. The Notch-Grip series is designed for external grooving, parting, and profile turning where secure insert seating and repeatable depth control are required. The double-end configuration extends usable tool life by providing two cutting edges per insert. Typical applications include O-ring groove machining, snap-ring groove cutting, and shoulder turning on shafts and hydraulic components in medium to high production volumes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Notch-Grip series grooving toolholders that accept the INR 3047 insert style with left-hand orientation. Compatible with toolholder systems specifying INR-style inserts in the 3047 size code.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR Notch-Grip clamping system and ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the insert to maintain accurate depth-of-cut repeatability. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut range during interrupted cuts or heavy stock removal passes.
