The ISCAR 6405473 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Notch-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC808 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, providing heat and wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 1.57 mm (0.0620 inch) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0940 inch). Positive rake geometry and a fine-grained carbide substrate make this insert suitable for stable, precise grooving where surface finish and tool life consistency are priorities. It is installed and serviced by machinists and CNC tool-setters in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving applications across universal workpiece material categories, including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-ferrous materials, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The Notch-Grip series is designed for use in matching Notch-Grip toolholders that accept the INR insert style. The double-end configuration allows two usable cutting edges per insert, extending tool utilization. Typical applications include external groove profiling, undercutting, and parting on medium to small diameter workpieces in both batch and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use with Notch-Grip series toolholders that accept the INR insert style in size 3031. Confirm toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation to ensure proper seating and clamping.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tool-setter with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state before any insert change. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure for the Notch-Grip system. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as compromised edges can lead to tool failure or workpiece damage.
