The ISCAR 6405438 is a carbide threading insert designed for external thread cutting on Swiss-type and precision turning machines. Grade IC1008 features a PVD coating applied over a fine-grain carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge stability on a range of workpiece materials including C1 through C3 and C5 through C6 material grades. The insert uses a left-hand cutting orientation and produces a partial profile 60-degree thread form with a 60-degree included angle. Pitch range covers 0.30 to 0.90 mm, equivalent to 28 through 83 TPI, making it suitable for fine-pitch threading work typical in medical, watchmaking, and precision instrument applications.
This insert belongs to the IscarThread Swisscut series, engineered for use in Swiss-style screw machines and small-diameter precision turning centers where compact tooling and tight tolerances are required. The MT chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow in external threading operations. The SCI insert style and size 22 designation match the corresponding ISCAR Swisscut toolholders. Licensed shops performing high-volume threading of small-diameter components will find this insert suited to both roughing and finishing passes within its pitch range.
Designed for use with ISCAR IscarThread Swisscut series toolholders accepting SCI-style, size 22 inserts. Verify holder geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and ISCAR-specified clamping hardware to seat the insert properly without overtightening. Confirm thread pitch programming in the CNC control matches the insert pitch range before cutting.
