The ISCAR 6405437 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC Swiss-type lathes and similar turning centers. Manufactured to the SCIR 22-200R16-00 configuration with ISCAR grade IC1008, this insert features a 2.00 mm cutting width, a 16-degree right-hand lead angle, and a 7-degree relief angle. The PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating combination delivers wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators as part of the Swisscut tooling system, where screw-clamped insert retention ensures repeatable positioning and secure seating under high-speed cutting conditions.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications in both production and job-shop environments using Swiss-type lathes and small-diameter turning setups. It supports a universal primary workpiece material classification, covering material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, which correspond to hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys. The maximum depth of cut is 7.00 mm (0.2756 inches), making it appropriate for moderate-depth parting cuts on small-to-medium diameter bar stock. The Swisscut series is engineered for close-tolerance Swiss screw machine work where insert geometry consistency is critical to finished part quality.
Designed for use in ISCAR Swisscut series toolholders that accept the SCIR 22 insert style with screw-clamp retention. Compatible workpiece material groups include H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating to maintain correct cutting geometry and prevent insert rocking.
