The ISCAR 6405422 is a solid carbide turning insert with ISCAR grade IC1008 and a PVD-applied dual-layer TiN/TiAlN coating. It belongs to the Swisscut series, designed for use on Swiss-type CNC lathes and sliding headstock turning centers. The insert measures 22.00 mm (0.866 inches) in length with a 3.00 mm (0.118 inches) thickness and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 2.49 mm (0.098 inches). The irregular S-shape profile with a 90-degree included angle and 7-degree relief angle suits precision turning and back turning operations. Screw clamping holds the insert securely during high-speed passes. Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for small-diameter, close-tolerance turning work typical of Swiss-type lathe applications. The IC1008 submicron carbide grade with PVD TiN/TiAlN coating supports cutting across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metals (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), hardened materials (H), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Right-hand cutting direction and neutral rake geometry make it applicable to both OD turning and back turning setups. The Swisscut series is optimized for the small part, high-precision segment of turned component manufacturing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard stocking insert for Swisscut series toolholders accepting SCIR-style inserts with size code 22. Compatible workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. ISO code reference: SCIR 22-ER00-07K0.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician on a Swiss-type or sliding headstock lathe. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Verify cutting direction and rake orientation against the toolholder specification before resuming operation.
