The ISCAR 6405421 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Swisscut series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC Swiss-type lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, it carries an IC1008 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating for heat resistance and edge durability. The insert measures 0.8661 inches in overall length and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.1496 inches. A 12-degree rake angle supports efficient chip evacuation across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is screw-held and single-ended, and is suited for use by machinists and tooling specialists working in high-precision turning environments.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range includes steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It fits into the Swisscut toolholding system and is well-suited for close-tolerance grooving work on Swiss-type sliding headstock machines commonly used in medical device, aerospace, and precision parts manufacturing. Maximum depth of cut falls in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch range, with a cutting height of 0.2756 inches.
Designed for use in ISCAR Swisscut series toolholders accepting SCIR22 insert style. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, corresponding to material grades C1, C2, C3, C5, and C6. Confirm toolholder and insert pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating the insert. Use the correct screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer documentation — do not overtighten or substitute fastener hardware. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change.
